Study Abroad Program continues amid COVID in 2020-21

Major Highlights:

International education witnessed decline of 79% during COVID19 yet 40% of Universities continue to promote their program. 51% continue to assure safety protocol for the pandemic is in place for study abroad program.

In summer 2020, 40,000 international students remained enrolled in universities. Among them, 91% enrolled for Fall 2020 semester. That means majority of international students who were enrolled in summer, continued through Fall 2020.

The universities continue to provide alternatives to international students. Options range from deferment to spring 2021 (87%), online enrollment through distance education classes (78%) and deferment to summer 2021 or beyond (46%).

Nevertheless, the decline has not demotivated some of the Higher Education institutions. Despite decline of 70% for academic year of 2020-21, there are 40% institutions that continue to promote the international program with all needed safety protocol of face coverings, no events and mass gatherings on campus, restricted gatherings at social areas on campus. 80-90% of social events-gathering is restricted on campus.

Nine out of ten institutions have adopted new approach that is hybrid or keep their approach flexible to practice new ways of teaching during this crisis of COVID 19.
